Become a Coach

Coaches are the heart of our program! Each season, two or more volunteer coaches inspire and guide a team through our tried-and-true curriculum. If you're ready to directly make an impact, then this role is for you.

Become a junior Coach

Junior Coaches are needed to inspire the next generation! Our Junior Coach program is for high school girls aged 16 to 18. Beyond serving as a role model to program participants, Junior Coaches work alongside Coaches, strengthening their leadership skills and gaining a sense of belonging and purpose.

Advisory Board

The GOTR Advisory Board supports the mission of Girls on the Run in the Great Lakes Bay Region. Members commit to a 3-year term. The Advisory Board is convened to:

  • Give advice
  • Provide support
  • Fundraise
  • Serve as representatives of the Girls on the Run program in the community.  
  • Meeting frequency: Monthly

Spring & Fall 5K Committees

Our council is seeking volunteers to join our GOTR Spring 5K & Program Committee and our Fall GOTR 5K & Reindeer Run Committee. Committee activities include:

  • Brainstorming and fun-making to create a unique and joyful experience for GOTR program participants and community members
  • Assistance with material and supply preparation 
  • Volunteering the day of the event
  • Event set up and tear down
  • Marketing, fundraising, and building parterships
  • Meeting frequency: As needed

Internships

Our council can create internship opportunities on an individual basis, helping you get the most out of your experience. Focus areas: volunteer recruitment, program support, marketing, communications, social media, graphic design, videography, operations, special events and fundraising.

5K Volunteers

Our end of season 5K provides a tangible sense of accomplishment to participants. To celebrate and make the experience one to remember, there are many opportunities to get involved.

  • Registration
  • Medal Station
  • Water Station
  • Happy Hair Stations
  • Running Buddy opportunities, where we invite family members and/or trusted friends to run alongside participants.

Group Opportunities

Are you part of a group or organization that wants to make an impact on our community? Girls on the Run would love to have you get involved with our program. Here are few ways you can make a difference while working together.

  • Volunteer together at a Girl on the Run 5K event – from cheer teams to water stations to handing out medals at the finish line and more – there are numerous ways for you to help bring this joyful end of season celebration to life!
  • Support with one-day volunteer opportunities.
  • Volunteer for or financially support a team for a season.
